THE STORY
Former minor leaguer has-been Morris Buttermaker is a lazy, down on his luck, beer swilling, cantankerous swimming pool cleaner with a bad attitude and an even worse dilemma: he’s flat broke. Desperate to get back on his feet financially, he agrees to coach a little league baseball team of foul-mouthed misfits with zero talent for baseball known as the Bears. Simple enough gig, right? Think again.
In June 2025, Team Bad News Bears held its second developmental workshop in New York City, bringing together an extraordinary team of actors, musicians, and creatives to continue shaping this Broadway-bound musical adaptation of the iconic Paramount film. Produced by Kamala Theatricals and co-written by Brian Feinstein and Eric Garcia, the workshop featured two industry presentations attended by producers, theatre leaders, and invited guests. The cast was led by Tony Award winner Bonnie Milligan (Kimberly Akimbo), Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live), and Ava Briglia (Matilda), delivering knockout performances that brought this hilarious and heartfelt underdog story to life. The response was electric — a celebration of scrappy spirit, big laughs, and bigger heart, reaffirming the show’s big-league potential.
