BRIAN FEINSTEIN
Composer, Playwright. Educator. Dog Dad. Always chasing the next great key change.
Brian Feinstein is an award-winning composer and playwright whose melodic sensibility bridges traditional and contemporary musical theatre. Drawing inspiration from masters like Rodgers, Menken, Yeston, and Schönberg—with a dash of Crowded House (IYKYK)—his compositions are unmistakably his own: character-driven, melodically rich, and infused with both whimsy and emotional depth. His work has been seen Off- Broadway, across the country, and in classrooms filled with young dreamers.
His musicals span Parisian rooftops, blue-collar baseball fields, bone-burying backyards, and small-town diners where a man once decided to eat a 747. (Yes, really.)
A graduate of USC's School of Cinema and NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, Brian’s first Off-Broadway show, Mimi Le Duck, starred the legendary Eartha Kitt in her final stage performance, a formative experience that continues to shape the soul, humor, and heartbeat of his work.
Brian’s catalogue spans genres and audiences, from whimsical mysteries for children to boundary-pushing musicals and acclaimed theatrical scores. His adaptation of The Bad News Bears, based on the iconic Paramount film, is currently in development and Broadway-bound. His rock musical GIRLSTAR was produced at Signature Theatre in Washington, DC. His compositions have brought a contemporary pulse to multiple Shakespeare productions with Shakespeare on the Sound, and his score for Dial M for Murder was praised by The New York Times for adding “a delicious shiver.” His family musical The Top Job is licensed and has seen productions across the U.S., and his music has been performed by the Boston Pops and singers worldwid
Current projects include:
🎭 The Man Who Ate The 747 – a modern-day fable about love, legacy, and aviation-based snacking, adapted from the novel by Ben Sherwood 🎭 Paws, Claws, and Jaws – an original canine comedic mystery for young audiences searching for their very own golden bone 🎭 RBG & Me – a family musical based on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, commissioned by The Rose Theater in Omaha. Premiering 2026
🎭 The Case of the Snot-Nosed Diamonds – an endangered monkey hides dazzling diamonds in his nose, and a jewel thief will stop at nothing to get them
🎭 The Mess, The Magic, The Musicals – a concert and/or album project celebrating the highs, heartbreaks, and harmonies of a life in theatre.
Brian’s passion for arts education led him to create the FeinLine Musical Theatre Academy, where he teaches the next generation of storytellers to write with heart, purpose, and a little razzle-dazzle. Under his guidance, students have premiered original works at regional festivals and developed pieces performed on stages across New York City. His guiding philosophy—“Any Age. Any Dream.”—captures his belief that storytelling has no expiration date.
Whether coaching middle schoolers through their first group number, mentoring professionals on structuring Act Two, or helping a solo artist shape their debut album, Brian believes in stories that ripple, one life, one song, one moment at a time.
He lives in New York City, though he’s often caught California dreaming. Most mornings, you’ll find him at the piano, dark roast in hand, and his loyal sidekick Bo asleep by his side.
